Harley Steet 's Commission

Commission of Two Large-Scale Original Encaustic Paintings for a Harley Street Dental Clinic

The image on the left captures a detail of one of the completed encaustic paintings, revealing the rich, layered surface and luminous depth created through successive applications of pigmented wax.

This commission involved the creation of two original large-scale encaustic paintings for a dental clinic on Harley Street, developed through a close and collaborative dialogue with the clients. Together, we explored how contemporary art could contribute to a calm, welcoming environment, balancing the clinical nature of the space with warmth, texture, and a sense of quiet reflection.

The project evolved through conversations, colour studies, and material samples, allowing the paintings to respond to both the architecture and the clients' vision. The completed commission demonstrates how a collaborative, site-responsive approach can result in artworks that not only complement an interior but also shape the atmosphere and experience of those who inhabit it.

I welcome enquiries for commissioned artwork, working closely with clients to create original pieces that respond to their space, vision, and personal connection to art. Whether for a private home, workplace, or public setting, each commission is developed through a collaborative process, resulting in a unique artwork that is both meaningful and site-responsive. Below, you can explore a selection of examples from previous commissions, offering an insight into the experience of working together and the finished works.

Manhattan's apartment commission

This private commission for a Manhattan apartment involved creating two large-scale encaustic artworks designed to capture the energy and atmosphere of New York City. The client wanted the pieces to bring the city skyline into the living space while reflecting the changing moods of light throughout the day. The two works were developed as a visual journey from sunrise to sunset, with layered wax, pigment, and texture revealing the shifting tones, reflections, and luminosity of the Manhattan skyline.

Working closely with the client throughout the process, the commission became a collaborative exploration of personal connection, place, and memory. Conversations about the apartment’s architecture, natural light, and the client’s relationship with the city helped shape the composition and palette of each piece. The finished artworks create a dialogue between the interior space and the world outside, transforming the changing light of New York into a timeless, tactile experience.
