Reminiscent of an aerial landscape or microscopic cross-section of living tissue, this 1m x 1m statement piece captures the intense friction between organic elements. Inspired by Chinese imperial pottery, the composition pays homage to classic Sang de Boeuf (Oxblood) glazes and crackle patterns. A vivid, textured sea of crimson collides with a crystalline teal horizon over a sand-toned terrain marked by lace-like cellular structures.
Created using encaustic (beeswax/resin) and a shellac burn technique. Igniting the surface forces the wax to separate, mimicking the organic "crazing" seen on fired ceramics. This volatile process leaves a permanent, highly tactile texture that catches light dynamically.
