In Norse myth, the apocalypse does not begin with fire, but with ice. Fimbul Winter is the three-year ceaseless freeze that precedes the twilight of the gods and failing of the sun. This artwork captures that encroaching inevitability. A storm of hundreds of carved, fluid marks form branching currents that split the dark void. Electric blue currents and icy teals dominate the surface like an advancing, cosmic frost, aggressively choking out the fading, volcanic oranges and crimson reds—the last dying embers of a doomed world.
Carved into multi-layered encaustic, this artwork carries a heavy, frozen narrative depth. The wax surface is sculpted to expose vibrant, hidden hues caught in a structural freeze. This relief technique traps light within its rough topography and high-gloss shellac finish.
