In Norse myth, Ragnarök is the apocalyptic final battle where the cosmic forces of Ice and Fire violently collide, destroying the known universe. This artwork captures the embers of the cataclysm and the swirling energy left behind. Hundreds of carved, fluid marks form a fracturing, Ouroboros-like ring. Volcanic oranges and electric blues swirl in a circular current, showing a world where fire and ice have finally merged into a single, rolling vortex before the cosmos is reborn.
Carved into multi-layered encaustic, the carvings expose vibrant, hidden hues against a dark, encrusted abyss that resembles cooled obsidian and scorched earth. This technique traps light within the topography, giving the impression of shifting, molten motion beneath a light-reflective clear shellac finish.
