As the apocalypse reaches its zenith, the great World Tree, Yggdrasil, which binds the nine realms of the cosmos together, trembles and catches fire. This artwork embodies that sacred cosmic structure consumed by elemental chaos. Hundreds of carved, fluid marks form a rupturing pillar of energy. The deep, electric blue roots anchor the bottom of the piece, only to be overtaken as volcanic oranges and searing crimson reds erupt upward, mimicking a magnificent, ancient canopy engulfed in fire.
Carved into multi-layered encaustic, the organic, wood-grain tactility mirrors the dermis of the dying World Tree. The carvings expose vibrant, hidden hues against a dark abyss. This relief traps light within its heavily worked topography, while the coat of clear shellac provides a liquid gloss for contrast.
